Our Core Program is designed to embrace you as you enter the end of life world and support you as you explore your relationship with death and dying. It is meant to help you create a way to serve others through dying, whether it be your own circle of family and friends over your lifetime or as a community service. We will integrate your gifts, experiences, and skills for the purpose of being of service to those at the end of life.
This course compiles 16+ years of experience of hospice nursing and private EOL guide work. It is not a simple regurgitation of funeral laws or how to do an advance directive, though there are plenty of wonderful resources included to help you do that. This material is about the “doula way” – the way of being that is so crucial in this work.
It is layered with questions and assignments that encourage self-reflection and emotional care for ourselves. We dive deep into the shadows of our own souls because if we are unaware of our own history and tender areas, we can unintentionally wreak havoc on a family. Self-care and self-reflection will help keep your own experiences from interfering with your care of a family and their loved one.
This program is a comprehensive mixture of all issues surrounding serving others at the end of life, a journey of self-reflection, plus a template to build your own practice if you desire to serve your community in a deeper way.
If you have ever thought about working with those in the process of leaving their bodies, I highly recommend Deanna F. Cochran‘s work. I have started this course with her and am wow’d by her knowledge, insight, experience and most of all by her compassion. The work is intense and is bringing up “my stuff” around death and loss; working with Deanna feels like following a pathfinder into territory she knows well and will lead me safely through.

All kinds of people from all around the world have worked with Deanna on their vision to serve others. This program is perfect for you if you want to:
- Be a death doula, midwife, coach or guide
- Shift from an employee to entrepreneur
- Add an end of life service to your menu of present services, in any field
- Have special end of life training so you may serve your present clientele more sensitively, whatever your industry
- Be better equipped as the ‘go-to’ person in your circle of family and friends
- Explore your past experiences with death and your present ideas
- Be with others as you learn as much as you can about your heart’s calling
Working with you has helped me to align myself with what feels right to me in this work. You confirmed in me what my passions and gifts are. Getting validation from someone with your knowledge and experience in this field has changed me forever. I truly mean that. I didn’t know being a “Death Doula” was even a thing. I now know 100% what my purpose is. Thank you for all of your time and the energy you put into this program. You are changing lives.

Self-Awareness & Spiritual Growth
This mentoring program is a dynamic process; You will discover much about yourself as you work through it. There are several layers to the program, one of which is delving into your history and your present way of thinking. We MUST be self-aware doing this work or we can unknowingly and unintentionally add harm to a situation. The questions and assignments in the training are designed to reach into the shadows where you may have inadvertently stored some beliefs that will not benefit you or the people you want to serve. We carefully explore these spaces together!
Also, it is crucial that you are sold on self-care. We must build this into our lives, especially if you serve the dying, or the daily dealings with such tremendous grief may rob you of your mental, emotional, and physical health. This can contribute to burn out and may push you into contemplating leaving the field. It would not be a true fading of interest, but rather a piling up of emotions that may squash your desire to serve. It is so sad when this occurs because the work is something we are all so passionate about.
In doing this preliminary work with the program, you may find a clearing out of old emotions, beliefs, and attitudes. It is very common for Deanna to hear how transformative this process is for our students. When she began years ago, she was not expecting this outcome. She thought she was merely creating a structure and system for a loving practice. But now, she knows the transformation will most likely happen on at least one level to most people that complete this process. It is impossible to not grow emotionally and spiritually when you are unearthing old ideas, old pains, and are willing to risk letting go of self-limiting beliefs!
The Course & Certificate
The course, Accompanying the Dying: a Practical Guide and Awareness Training, is divided into 6 Sections. Each section is made up of modules, which are a blend of practical information, resources, food for thought, and assignments. Each section is designed to give you a base to form your foundation as the modules address many things you may run into as you serve the dying. My intention is that you walk into each situation with a broad knowledge base of what you may experience with a family. You will receive comprehensive guidance and a way to structure your practice that supports your highest goals of accompanying someone and their family during this time.
You will have six months to complete the Core Certificate Program. Enrollment is limited. We will have the registration page clearly marked if registration is closed for the remainder of the current month.
